I have never considered myself as an artist, but rather, a "maker", or a craftsman. That's probably because I have been trained as a cabinetmaker, completing a formal four year apprenticeship in Ontario, and working in the trade for many years. Any design ability can only be attributed to osmosis, from the experience of 26 years of woodworking. I enjoy both hand-work and machine work, constantly attempting to find the balance between modern and traditional technique in the pursuit of a unique, quality product.

My influences come from a few key people in my past - all creative, inventive persons and, except for one, not woodworkers. I translate through wood, what they taught me about creative thinking. I am also influenced by current design trends, and the inspiring style that was the Arts & Crafts movement a hundred years ago.

I'm not sure if I exhibit a personal style, but hopefully, the passion for "building stuff" is evident in my work - whether it is my design, or yours.
