Marquetry, for designer and craftsman Dustin Doerntlein, is all about highlighting and showing off the beauty of wood. The sweet aroma of a piece of cherry being milled on the jointer, the silky surface of a newly sanded board of black walnut, and the warmth radiating from the wood burning stove of his great-grandfather's woodshop are a few of the early memories which sparked a lifelong obsession with wood in this dedicated artist.

In utilizing hundreds of different exotic hardwood veneers, each unique in colour and grain, Dustin's work describes the diversity of the natural world, lending a timelessness to each creation. Through Local and International exhibitions, Public education and Donations of work. He has done much to bring awareness to the lost art of marquetry as a sustainable means of enjoying the beauty of even the rarest woods.
