| The Society
Formed in February 2001 by a core of fine woodworkers
and studio furniture makers, the Greater Vancouver Wood Arts Society
is a non-profit organizarion dedicated to representing local wood
artisans and promoting fine craft.
The work of the growing membership of men and women demonstrates
a breadth of interest and skill, ranging from fine furniture, musical
instruments, turnings, cabinetry, trim and finish carpentry, to
decorative art. Complementary to the primary material of wood; metal,
glass and a wealth of other mediums are evident in the works of
the Society members.
The Society, through forums such as semi-annual exhibitions, demonstrates
that, far from being a lost art, woodworking is a thriving and proudly
practiced profession.
Memberships benefits include: networking opportunities (sharing
knowledge, skills, tips, tools, promotional ideas and costs with
like-minded wood artisans), monthly meetings, web page availability
to display Wood Art portfolio, email account and forum for discussion.
In association with the B.C. Association of Wood Co-operatives,
the Society offers access to material purchasing discounts from
local suppliers, as well as, the opportunity to exhibit and sell
juried work in the Wood Co-op Gallery on Granville Island.
The Greater Vancouver Wood Arts Society is proud to
promote local independent artisans and public awareness of their
skills. We invite anyone interested in the Society to contact
us.
